Independent Party of Connecticut
State Central Committee
August 18, 2020
Due to the continuing statewide effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and by a majority vote of the Independent Party of CT State Central Committee members, a resolution was submitted and approved to forgo the regular endorsement caucus for State Senators, State Representatives and other local and state offices in and around the State of CT normally conducted by the Independent Party of CT State Central Committee regarding the November 3, 2020 election.
As stated in our earlier July 21, 2020 resolution:
“All possible candidates must come forward to the SCC by August 11th so that we will have time to hold any caucuses that may still be required before the State imposed deadline of Sept 2nd.”
We have no contested nominations for any race that would be between any two or more Independent Party members that have come forward by the stated date of August 11th 2020 so we will not have a reason to hold any caucuses in any district where we are running our own candidate.
The only contested districts are those where both the endorsed Democratic candidate for that district and the endorsed Republican candidate for that district have both asked to be considered for a cross-endorsement.
Because of the ongoing public health concerns and the fact that they will both be on the ballot regardless what we do; we feel that the best way to resolve who will get our Independent Party endorsement would be to have those candidates asking for a cross-endorsement answer a questionnaire and compare their answers to how the Independent Party State Central Committee members also answer the same questions. The Candidate who most closely reflex the consensus of the State Central Committee will get our endorsement.
